COVID-19 (coronavirus) advice: latest information

UQ VETS continues to be available for all of your pet’s veterinary requirements. The health and wellbeing of our staff, students, clients and patients is our first priority.

We encourage you to call our friendly reception team to discuss your pet's individual circumstances. Below we have the following COVID related precautions we would like you to be aware of.

Precautionary measures

These precautionary measures are in effect as of May 3, 2022.

The following precautionary measures may change without notice depending upon the latest advice from the state and federal governments and their medical advisers.

We continue to take the latest advice from the state and federal governments and their medical advisers.

  1. When you arrive for your appointment, we will ask you to wear a face mask while inside the clinic due to difficulties with social distancing
  2. Our team will escort you to a consult room when one is available and cleaned. If there is a wait our team will take you to an approved waiting area
  3. To promote healthy hygiene habits all visitors are asked to sanitise their hands at various times. Hand sanitiser will be available in all waiting areas and consult rooms
  4. To allow for social distancing, discharges and history taking may be mostly conducted over the phone
  5. Visitation of hospitalised animals will continue with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required
  6. We encourage contactless payment wherever possible
  7. Please note that leads, collars and other animal accessories will not be admitted with your animals

If you are sick with a fever or respiratory signs, are under quarantine, at risk of COVID-19, or you are displaying COVID-19 clinical signs, contact us immediately so we can help to reschedule your appointment or make alternative arrangements.

If you arrive with any of the above, you will be instructed to leave the clinic and ring us for instructions on how to proceed.

Small Animal Services EMERGENCY admissions

In the event of an emergency:

  • Please call ahead on 5460 1788. We will discuss your pet’s condition over the phone and determine the best plan of action
  • We will triage the patient over the phone and collect as much history as possible before you arrive
  • If we determine that your pet needs to be seen and you are feeling unwell, please find a healthy person to bring your pet to the hospital.
  • Where possible before you arrive for emergency or urgent care please endeavour to find alternate care arrangements for children where possible to minimise the number of people at the hospital, and if not possible please advise us in advance.
