Internal Medicine Specialist
Erica is an internationally experienced and qualified internal veterinary medicine specialist excited to be working at the University of Queensland Veterinary Medical Centre. Following graduation from the National Veterinary School of Lyon (France) in 2003, Erika undertook a rotating internship in Canada at the University of Montreal in small animal medicine and surgery. She returned to France and completed a Certificate in advanced studies in internal medicine. Interested in laboratory research work, she further pursued with a Master in Oncogenetics at the Medical School of Marseille working on the side as general practitioner.
Erika’s extensive experience encompasses a residency in small animal internal medicine in the USA at Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital where she received her Masters degree and American College of Veterinary Medicine Certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine, winning the Osborne case report competition organised by the Phi Zeta Society which recognises the best case presentation annually. Her post residency career included emergency and specialist private practice in Canada where she also founded the Internal Medicine Service.
As a team player, Erika focussed on the evidence, process and procedure to synthesise treatment as a solution for the best patient management and outcome. Her interests are broad end she enjoys the wide span of cases, particularly those complex cases where minimally-invasive techniques can deliver the best patient outcome. Her interests also include infectious diseases such as MRSA, haemodialysis and renal medicine, as well as liver diseases business management and teaching.
During her career, Erika has trained many students, interns, veterinary nurses and mentored younger colleagues. Her colleagues are continually amazed at what she notices, picking up obscure symptoms, most others miss. She presents at continuing education conferences and written numerous articles summaries for general practitioners. Having worked in both private and academic environments, Erika understands the challenges of both academia and private veterinary practice.
