Puppy Pre-school

two puppies in grass field

Has a new puppy joined your family? Please consider joining our Puppy Pre-School at UQ VETS Small Animal Hospital located on the UQ Gatton campus.

Our highly trained and passionate team will focus on teaching you the skills to begin training your puppy to learn simple cues you can use in everyday life. Your puppy will be exposed to positive, non-overwhelming socialisation, to novel situations, noises, people and of course, other puppies.

Simple behaviours such as giving attention and responding to name, coming when called, sit, lie down, leave and wait will all be introduced. Puppies will begin to learn how to settle and remain calm; the beginning of being able to control their impulses.

You will be able to build on this foundation training as your puppy grows and develops. Positive reinforcement reward-based training will be used and you will gain an understanding of how puppies learn and their developmental stages. We will help you understand your puppy’s body language so you can learn what they’re saying. This training will positively influence the developing relationship you have with your new puppy, and grow the bond between you.

There will be opportunities to discuss typical issues such as toilet training, nipping, jumping up and destructive behaviour. Our staff will be able to give you practical advice to aid you in overcoming these and many other issues.

Requirements

For their own safety, puppies must be between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks at commencement and must have received at least one vaccination. The UQ VETS GP Service will be running Puppy Pre-School so if your puppy requires a vaccination; our team is happy to do so for you.

Please limit people attending the classes to 2 people per puppy. Attendees are asked that younger children not attend for all of the puppies in the class to gain the most out of the sessions. Children over 12 years are welcome to participate.

Costs

Puppy Pre-School will be run over 4 consecutive weeks on Tuesday evenings and will cost $110.

Booking

Sessions will be held indoors for you and your puppies’ comfort. A maximum of 6 puppies per program has been set for puppies to gain the most out of the classes so book in quickly before the places are filled.

To enrol, complete the enrolment form and send it to us as an email attachment or fax a printed copy to us.
